Responsibilities
The Dental Assistant is a multi-person position that provides dental assisting and related support to faculty, students (dental, dental assisting, and dental hygiene), patients, and accompanying persons (parents, guardians, spouses, or children). The work varies according to the schedule assigned (morning, day, evening, or Saturday), the function of the clinic (Oral Surgery, Children's Clinic, Adult Clinic, Endodontic Clinic, Urgent Care Clinic, Radiology, Dental Outreach Community Service (DOCS), etc.), time of the year (start, mid or end of term), and the needs of the patients, students, or faculty. In every aspect of the role, the Dental Assistant provides demonstration, guidance, and enforcement on procedures and policies to dental students and hygienists.

Qualifications

Qualifications
Education:
1 year Community College Dental Assisting Diploma Level 1 with current Certification with the Ontario Dental Assistant Association (ODAA)
Health and Radiation Protection Certification (HARP)
WHMIS and CPR Certification
Experience:
1 year experience in chairside assisting, sterilization, and infection control
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of 4 handed chairside dentistry techniques
Demonstrated knowledge of dental terminology and procedures, infection control, and sterilization standards
Ability to multi-task and adapt to a fast paced changing workload
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, patients, and colleagues
A positive, respectful, outgoing attitude and strong customer service skills to handle enquires and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
Basic computer skills, email and internet
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to function as part of a team
A strong sense of accountability and the ability to demonstrate initiative
Good organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines
Ability to work within a flexible schedule, due to the operations of Clinics work schedules fluctuate including evening and weekend shifts
